Brian Hughes
Committee Member
Brian comes from a practical trade background with 27 years’ experience as an automotive engineer. He became involved in motorcycle training and was a senior instructor for the State Government sponsored Motorcycle Training Program for 15 years, when the program became privatized. Brian liked what he saw in the road safety field and completed a Graduate Certificate in Road Safety from the University of New England. Brian backed up his training with a move to The Department of Transport and Main Roads as the Road Safety Advisor for Far North Queensland.
After the relocation to Innisfail Brian moved to Cassowary Coast Regional Council and eventually took the position of Technical Officer Engineer. During this time, he was able to obtain funding for three major road improvement projects where high crash rates were recorded. Brian, now in semi-retirement, still enjoys conducting the occasional road safety audit, to keep his authorization current and to earn valuable travel money.
